Tonight, nothing will make me happier than seeing the New York Yankees go down in flames.
While sports commentary is not exactly what visitors to this site are expecting, today I must break from tradition. The Boston Red Sox are one game away from making baseball history by coming back from a 0-3 series deficit to embarass the Yanks and head to the World Series.
I hate the Yankees for the same reasons many sports fans do, and become quickly irritated–somewhat irationally, I’ll admit–whenever I see their logo branded across someone’s forehead in the form of a $50 baseball cap. Armenia, contrary to expectations, has provided little refuge from this periodical annoyance.
While others can give comprehensive lists as to why the divine order of the universe commands that Boston trounces their division rivals tonight, I will keep my grievance short and to the point: the Yankees’ $184.2 million payroll represents the most perverted priorities of capitalist culture.
Here’s a bit of perspective: the amount of cash blown on Yankees player salaries would be more than enough for the drugs needed to treat every AIDS patient on earth for three years.
I say that once the Red Sox are done with them, we fire the team and spend the payroll on saving lives, not foul balls.
